Everesting is different from other mountain climbing challenges. Riders must complete continuous repeats on a single hill. To achieve the same elevation as Mount Everest, the rider must climb and descend the same hill. This activity is also called vEveresting, which is done on the virtual reality platform Zwift.

Hells 500 created the Everesting Challenge. It started when a group of adventure junkies brainstormed the idea for an endurance event. Lachlan Moron, a member from EF Pro Cycling Team who is also a rider, was part of this group. He completed an Everesting Ride in 7 hours, and now holds the world record for the fastest Everesting ride. He also holds the record for the fastest Everesting ride using an FSA/Vision equipped Cannondale SuperSix Disc, and the fastest ever ride on Metron 40 disc brake wheels.

It is becoming very popular with cyclists and other athletes. There are fewer vehicles involved, making it safer, and the weight is carried in short segments. Some riders use the Everesting Challenge as an individual endurance race. Some others prefer to run their attempts on a treadmill. Some have done their run on an at home route during a quarantine period.

In March of 2022, a new Everesting world record was set by Nima Javaheri. He reached 38.703m elevation on La Croisette (France). He ran at a weight of 260 watts. This is about the same power as running a marathon. He also achieved the longest "free vertical climb" of any Everesting rider.


Everesting can seem difficult, but it is really not. Zwift makes it easy to do a virtual Everesting ride. Or you can just ride your favorite hill. Strava, or other GPS tracking devices can be used to record your achievement. You can also do Everesting with a trainer, or on a gravel path.

One of the earliest everesting attempts was done by George Mallory, the grandson of a famous British explorer. Mallory completed his Everesting from a bicycle. His climb reached 8,848 metres. This is the equivalent to the top of the highest mountain in the world. Mallory was able to return home safely in 1995. He also cycled Mount Donna Buang, an Australian mountain in the Mount Everest range, and held the record for the fastest Everesting ride.

How do I get started with Base Jumping?

Base jumping (also known as free-fall parachuting) is a sport where participants jump from fixed objects (usually cliffs), such as bridges, towers, buildings, etc., without any equipment attached to them. To land safely, the participant must jump off the object. It is similar to skydiving, except that there is no requirement to wear a parachute, nor do you have to hold your breath while waiting to open it.
